Demand for renewable energy increases

Rising gas and electricity prices are triggering a portuguese rush to renewable and sustainable energy. Demand for products and services skyrocketed 137% in July compared to the same period in 2021, app Fixating today, in an analysis with 2600 users and 1200 specialists, between July 1 and August 25, 2022, according to a statement sent to SUPERCASA News.

Based on the current registration, the APP that connects customers to specialists from all service areas, estimates that demand in 2022 will grow 180% compared to 2021.

It should be noted that the prices charged by professionals and companies have grown exponentially, mainly due to the scarcity of labor and materials.

For example, Fixando reveals that the installation of solar panels in 2021 cost €420 per service and currently around €590 per service, i.e. a progression of 40.5%.

"This increase in demand comes at a time when Portuguese families are increasingly concerned about changes in energy costs and are looking to invest in alternatives, not only more sustainable, but also that guarantee them some relief in monthly expenses," explains Alice Nunes, Director of New Business at Fixando. 

The districts where the most customer requests are Lisbon (17%), Porto (15%), Setúbal (10%), Aveiro (9%), Braga (8%) and Leiria (8%). Most users look for these services for homes with areas above 100 square meters (89%) and despite the price increase, 42% say they want to have solar panels connected to the grid, with only 25% preferring a connection of their own.

Offer does not accompany demand
Despite the growing interest of consumers in opting for renewable and sustainable energy services, supply on the market is not sufficient to respond to requests. According to Fixando, 55% of the requests made at Fixando during the month of July went unanswered.  

Although since the beginning of the year the number of companies and specialists that sell services related to Renewable Energy and Sustainability has grown 19% compared to 2021, less than 10% are currently available to accept new markings.
