Wallpaper: everything you need to know

Perhaps it was once a vintage element, but as trends come and go, and practically everything is invented (or almost), wallpaper has returned to cover the walls of our homes. A simple example: the company Banak Importa has just launched its first collection of wallpapers.

There are four different wallpaper models:

• Bouquet, created from bunches of flowers;
• Mist, inspired by the sea;
• Palm, inspired by palm leaves;
• Aqua, an ideal proposal for the smallest rooms in the house.

An important aspect to consider if you are thinking of putting wallpaper at home is that not just any wall will do, in fact, the wall has to be smooth. “In addition to being smooth, it should not have major imperfections because if it does, it will be marked on the paper”, confirms Banak Importa. So you already know: avoid walls with gotelé, defects and small protrusions.

When placing it, the wall must be clean and dry: “It is recommended to use the glue that comes with the paper. In addition, it is important to respect the recommended overlapping area, the paper has a width of 50 cm”. In terms of maintenance, it is very simple: they recommend wiping with a damp, clean and wrung cloth, without applying any cleaning product or rubbing, as this can damage the paper.

Where to put wallpaper?

At Banak, they recommend covering only one wall of the room with wallpaper. "For example, for a wall 4 meters wide by 2.50 meters high, you would need two rolls of wallpaper, each costing 79 euros", they explain.

In the children's room, for example, they recommend placing it on the bed wall: the entire wall can be covered or only half of it. In the master bedroom, the recommendation is similar: only on the wall that the bed touches.

If we want to put wallpaper in the dining room, the best thing to do would be on the wall of the sofa, that way we can play with the upholstery of the sofa and the tone of the pillows. If we want it for the hall of the house, the best thing to do is to fix the paper on the wall that is right in front of the entrance door.

One of the problems that the wallpaper may suffer is with the edges that, over time, can come off. To prevent it from coming off, just use a thin brush with glue on the areas where it is peeling off.
